Building Connections: Self-Care Social
Grapevine is a registered charity in Coventry and Warwickshire. They help all sorts of people facing challenges to get back on track, reconnect, stay strong. Forum Health Centre are working with Grapevine on a joint Building Connections: Self Care Social (SCS) project, a movement of people who have a long term health condition or chronic illness.
The hope is that we can work together to better support patients with long term health conditions who might be feeling poorly and, if you’ve recently been diagnosed, perhaps frightened and frustrated too.
Now is the best time to take control of your journey and become part of something – where good experiences are shared and barriers overcome.
You are the key to your health and happiness. You probably have lots of ideas about helping yourself and others like you to stay well - living full and fun lives.
We are more than our illness and condition.
Don’t settle for feeling disconnected from the world around you – we know you have more to give and the Grapevine Connecting for Good Cov project has been launched to support a social movement of patients with long term conditions.
What is Self-Care Social?
Self care social is a movement of people living with a health problem. There are regular activities and campaigns that anyone can come along and contribute to - no contribution is too small.
Case study
Katie's Feel Good Community example:
Katie, with ME, was one of them. She has gone from not leaving her flat, to not talking at the group, to showing people individually how to ‘scratch doodle’, to talking to the group about how being creative makes her feel good. Mel, a former teacher and founder of FGC is now employed by Grapevine to help others set up their own initiatives. She has a similar story, “The Feel Good Community was a result of changing my mindset about life with a chronic illness. I had to stop focusing on the things I couldn’t do anymore and start focusing on the things I could do.”
